Sports Illustrated’s Sportsment Of 2007 Is…

not Roger Federer. As many of tennis experts anticipated, SI found someone to avoid putting Roger Federer on their cover. Brett Favre is definitely a deserving winner, but Roger was more deserving. Of course, some Americans don’t count Tennis as a “real” sport which is a shame. This depth of ignorance is acceptable on Mars but not in the U.S. and not when we have one of the greatest players of all time making history day in and day out! Shame!

Davis Cup Comes Back To U.s.

Davis Cup 2007 Champions? You guessed it right! Finally, the U.S. has ended their 12 year drought to dominate a Russian Team that had no spirit nor guts to mount a challenge to them in Portland. The U.S. Team scored three consecutive wins to end the tie earlier than expected against the team that possessed a top 5 singles player as well solid players such as Youzhny, Andreev, and Safin. Of course, the Russian coach decided not to use his best players on the first day as he scratched Davydenko and Safin, and put Tursunov and Youzhny against Roddick and Blake. Once the U.S. went up 2-0, there was no way back for Russia. In essence the tie was done and over on the first day. Congratulation to the U.S. but by no means this demonstrates any new positive development in America’s tennis as the U.S. still lacks a truly world class all around player who can challenge the likes of Federer and Nadal. But it is better than nothing I guess.
