Federer Beats Canas on Clay(!)

by admin on May 6, 2008

I remember last year when Canas luckily beat Federer twice in Miami and Indian Wells, bandwagon fans were talking about how he was the main threat to Rafael Nadal on clay. Of course, he had his chance against Nadal and he fell also just like everyone else. But it was amusing how people gave Federer little chance against Canas on clay. Today, the dream match took place and Roger Federer made a strong statement by beating Canas 6-3, 6-3 to reach the third round of Rome Masters. Sure. It’s not as if Roger beat Rafael Nadal, but it is almost the next best thing. Federer still has ways to go to beat Nadal on clay but is without a doubt the 2nd best clay court player in the world.
