New Favorite For Wimbledon To Be Crowned Today

by admin on June 14, 2008

Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have all done as expected by reaching the finals of Halle and Queen’s respectively. But Nadal and Djokovic have been far more impressive than Federer, which should be the indication that Federer might enter the U.S. Open with only 2 titles (Estoril, Halle).

Nadal was utterly impressive today with the way he handled Andy Roddick (far easier than he did Karlovic). He broke Roddick’s serve twice and was not really in that much trouble during the match (a couple of break points here and there). Djokovic topped what Nadal did by beating Nalbandian 6-1, 6-0. So the two hottest players on grass play in the final against each other tomorrow with the winner the top favorite for the Wimbledon title. Nadal is good on grass but I think if Djokovic plays like he can, he should win tomorrow’s match in 3 sets.

As far as Federer is concerned, he should pray that he doesn’t get Djokovic in his half of the draw for Wimbledon. Not that Roger can’t make it to the final, but that Djokovic may take out Nadal in the semis. Federer would definitely not want to face Nadal at Wimbledon again as Nadal really should’ve won last year’s match and he has improved so much in all areas this year. And the fact that he has been in Roger’s head from the start of their rivalry doesn’t bode well for Roger either.

Winners: Halle, Federer. Queen’s: Djokovic
